Nan Gatewood Satter specializes in fiction and narrative nonfiction. Her early career was spent at Doubleday, where she edited books across a wide spectrum of general interest nonfiction, from historian Bruce Catton’s Reflections on the Civil War to astrologer Jeanne Avery’s classic The Rising Sign. Notable recent books edited include Susan Richards’ memoir Chosen By A Horse (six months on the New York Times bestseller list) and its sequel Chosen Forever; Returning to My Mother’s House by Gail Straub and Social Change 2.0 by David Gershon, both winners of National Best Books awards and Nautilus awards; That White Girl and Occupying Privilege by JLove Calderon; Winning the Story Wars by Jonah Sachs; The Conditions of Love by Dale Kushner; and Mothering & Daughtering, by Sil & Eliza Reynolds.
A significant focus of Nan's work in recent years has been the development of emerging writers, and to this end she leads a series of popular writing workshops near her home in the Hudson Valley. Nan is on the faculty of the Denver Publishing Institute.
